Author, Chief (Sir) Nik Nnamdi Ikechukwu Onyechi
Author, Chief (Sir) Nik Nnamdi Ikechukwu Onyechi is a Librarian, Information Scientist, Documentalist, Educator and Educational Administrator born in Lagos 29th August 1942, hails from Ogidi in Idemili North L.G.A of Anambra state, Nigeria.
Nik as he is simply called attended universities in Ibadan, London and Loughborough (UK) obtaining the following: B.A (Hons) English,1973; M.Sc. Information Science, 1979; PG Diploma in Librarianship, Ibadan 1965; Associateship of the (U.K) Library Association (A.L.A), 1973.
Nigeria’s Book of Firsts, first published in Nigeria in 1989, was described by Nik as his ‘humble contribution toward filling the yawning information gap in Nigeria as well as uplifting the level of national consciousness and patriotism among fellow Nigerians’. Three decades on, this reference work – laboriously compiled in a pre-Internet age – stands the test of time as an invaluable guide to landmarks in Nigerian political, economic, social and cultural history.
Widely travelled and published, Chief Nik Onyechi has several reputable journal articles to his credit. Since retiring from public service, Nik has remained relevant in community services and held various board positions at Kiwanis International club, Board of Directors, Ikemba Ojukwu Centre, Owerri, Vice President, Fedpoly Chapter, Pensioners Association over the past years.
Prior to his retirement, Nik was regularly called upon as a Public Speaker and delivered several motivational talks all of which contributed to the conferment of title of Knight of St. Christopher (KSC,2010) and the Chieftaincy title of Ezejiaka- Ogidi (Chinua Achebe’s Kinsman)
Chief Nik Onyechi is happily married to Lady Nkolika Onyechi (a.k.a Moma- Enkay), Registrar Emerita Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka Anambra state with whom they have been blessed with 4 daughters, a son and grandchildren
